Scratches is a first-person horror/mystery adventure game with a
point-and-click interface. The player will take the role of a horror writer
named Michael Arthate during his stay inside an old Victorian house in
his quest to investigate an unsolved murder. While the setting seems
to be typical “writer spends night in haunted house”, the development
of the story leads to surprising twists where nothing is what is seems
and a terrifying conclusion. The goal is to gather clues left by previous
inhabitants of the house, the Blackwood family, and understand what
happened. The emphasis is on the “mystery” part given the lack of
gore and thrills but there’s a good amount of “horror”, as in fear of
the unknown. The game is of a solitary nature and there’s virtually no
interaction with secondary
characters, with the exception of dialogues that take place over a
phone. There will be plenty of puzzles scattered in the gaming area of
diverse difficulty levels.
