In 1954 Frank Sinatra released 'Songs For Young Lovers', his first album for Capitol, with a collection of well known love songs. Whilst others had tried this kind of concept before, Nelson Riddle's arrangement coupled with the sound attainable at Capitol's studio and Frank's distinctive vocals made it massive hit.
After a couple of more conventional albums, Frank decided to return to the formula (if indeed it was a formula) for the 1956 album 'Songs For Swingin' Lovers', this time giving the arrangements something of a swing feel. It proved an even bigger success, becoming the first album to toip the UK charts and making Frank one of the idols of the day. Capitol wasted little time in capitalising on his popularity, gathering together a collection of singles and B-sides as 'This Is Sinatra', another UK chart topper in 1957.
