Originally recorded in 1958 as Basie Swings Bennett Sings', this album represented something of a career change for Tony Bennett. Having already established himself as an extremely successful popular singer in the mould of Frank Sinatra and Perry Como, this album saw Tony switch to more jazz-based music, a theme he would return to time and again in later years. The album also indicated future projects for Count Basie, who was later to enjoy considerable success working with Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire and Sammy Davis Jr. The success of 'Basie Swings Bennett Sings' led to a second collaboration between the two artists, 'Strike Up The Band'.
