An early member of Buddy Holly's backing group (he missed the fateful crash after giving up his seat to Ritchie Valens) Waylon Jennings has introduced all maner of influences into his music during a long and eventful career. Whilst he is most usually associated with country music, there are smatterings of rock and roll, gospel, soul, folk and blues within the overall sound, making him almost impossible to categorise.
Almost, of course, but not entirely impossible. He is widely regarded as one of the founders of the outlaw movement within country music, a movement that also embraced Willie Nelson (with whom Waylon recorded extensively) and Johnny Cash (with whom he toured), among others. This collection of 15 songs features an eclectic mix of styles, resulting in an album that is as varied as it is exciting.
