In the space of four years between 1950 and 1954, Patti Page released 21 hit singles in the US and saw eleven of them go on to sell over a million copies, a phenomenal ratio that earned her the moniker ‘The Singing Rage’. Singing from an early age, Patti passed up an art scholarship at 19 to sing on a radio station, soon being given her own show (she had originally performed under her own name of Clara Ann Fowler, but the show’s sponsor, the Page Milk Company, insisted on keeping the programme name ‘Meet Patti Page’, hence the change). She signed with Mercury in 1948 and scored her first hit the same year with 'Confess' before topping the charts with 'All My Love' and then 'Tennessee Waltz', one of the earliest crossover country to pop hits. The hits kept coming throughout the 1950s, prompting a subsequent move into films by the end of the decade and numerous television appearances. During her illustrious career, Patti has registered 81 chart hits in the US and was still performing well into the 1990s.
