Here In My Heart Britain’s first pop chart was produced by the New Musical Express on 14th November 1952. Staff on the music title had spent much of the previous week on the telephone to a number of record stores around the country, asking them for details of their best selling records. From the information received, the NME produced a Top 12 (although owing to a number of ties there was actually fifteen titles listed!), with Al Martino’s 'Here In My Heart' the very first chart topper. Thus began a love affair with the singles chart that continues to this day. This album features all fifteen titles that made up the very first chart. We begin the listing as if a radio station of the day had aired the chart: starting at number twelve and working our way towards the number one position. It goes without saying that all the records were ‘new entries’, the first and only occasion in which the entire top twelve has been new entries!
